CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS

 

TEACHING INQUIRIES ARE ALWAYS WELCOME.

 

LIFELONG LEARNERS:

People taking classes at the Minderful Center are well-educated, well-traveled, sophisticated individuals with strong intellectual and cultural interests.  They bring a great deal of experience and education to the class and are held there solely by their interest in the subject and instructor.  Instructors invariably enjoy working with these lifelong learners. 

 

SUCCESSFUL INSTRUCTORS:

Participants expect instructors who are well-informed, prepared, organized and focused.   Successful instructors are lively, open and accessible in the classroom.  While a lecture approach may be appropriate for a few classes, a lively interactive style is encouraged whenever appropriate.   The instructor needs to approach the participants as peers who share his/her intellectual and cultural interests and utilize the students’ experience to enrich the class.  Expect to learn from these students.

 

TEACHING REQUIREMENTS:

Because these classes are non-credit, they are free of any rigid state-mandated requirements, tests or curriculum goals.  A minimum of an undergraduate degree is preferable but not required.   Knowledge of the subject and a lively, active, effective teaching style are the basic requirements for hire and renewal, plus the ability to interact with adults in a respectful, engaging manner.
